ENGLISH

Arriving at Glasgow School of Art (GSA) and in Glasgow was a challenging experience for both of us as every aspect of life and school was different from what we knew. Both coming from design school, it was new to us to evolve in an art school environment, meeting people and ideas from very different disciplines from ours. We discovered a new structure and we were able to experiment with all of the facilities the school offers.

The way the course was organised broadened our minds in a different way of learning and teaching. All the freedom given to us was at first unsettling but it gave us the opportunity and the time to learn about ourselves, what we really like in graphic design and what we want from the future as professionals.

The studio life was an important part of our practice as it is the space for meeting, exchange and crits. There we met each other and we discovered we were both interested in the typographic field. From there was born the desire to begin to begin a project together. The freedom given to us made us create a font during the second year of the masters, something we never did before but that we were both really into and that we wanted to learn. Working as a team was empowering as we could take bolder decisions together and it made all the work more fun.

After designing our first font ‘Diaspora’, we are now publishing further projects and opening our own type foundry to release the font and future projects. More than a simple experience, GSA enabled us to create a project that will last a life time.
